Vegan Butter Bean Dip

Making your own dips at home is so easy, I wonder why I ever bothered getting any store-bought ones! This Spicy Vegan Butter Bean Dip is a delicious addition to any sharing platters and wonderful with homemade crackers, veggie sticks and Co.

I've served my dip with my Easy Vegan Apple Crackers, as they go along wonderfully!

Ingredients for Spicy Vegan Butter Bean Dip

Butter beans

As you can probably guess from the name: butter beans are the base for this dip! I love them as they're delicious and versatile and easily become super creamy when blended up - the perfect base for a smooth dip!

Garlic

If you've made any of my recipes, you'll probably know I'm a huge fan of anything garlic, so of course, I couldn't leave my favourite seasoning out of this recipe. I like to use fresh or roasted garlic for this recipe, but you can also use garlic powder or omit the garlic entirely if you're not a fan.

Spices

The spices are what gives this dip its deliciously tangy flavour! For this Spicy Vegan Butter Bean Dip, I've used a combination of smoked paprika, cumin, salt, black pepper and chilli flakes. Find the full amounts in the recipe card below.

Apple cider vinegar

For a well-rounded flavour of this dip, it's important to add a little acidity. This is where the vinegar comes in!

Lemon juice

Also, some acidity is added by lemon juice in this recipe. It'll also add a little sweetness and sourness which works perfectly with the spicy seasoning.

Herbs

I love adding fresh herbs to my dips. On this occasion, I've used parsley as it works wonderfully with the flavours of this recipe.

Oil

Some delicious fats are added to the dip! For a smooth dip, some oil is essential. I've used olive oil on this occasion, but you can also use your favourite oils, just be aware that some (for example sesame, peanut, hemp and flaxseed) will change the flavour. If you want to avoid this use a flavour neutral alternative such as rapeseed.

Hot sauce

Making it hot! I've used sriracha sauce to add some more delicious spice to the dip. You can easily adjust the amount to your personal liking - go slow, you can always add in more hot sauce as you go along.

How to make this Spicy Vegan Butter Bean Dip

Creating this delicious dip is honestly the simplest thing, believe me! Simply drain and rinse your butter beans and combine them with all the ingredients in a food processor or blender until smooth.

You can leave the hot sauce for last if you like so you can easily adjust the amount of spice you add to your dip.

Variations for this recipe

This dip recipe is great to adapt it to your own personal taste - or simply to what your pantry has to offer.

Beans

If you don't have any butter beans (aka white beans) to hand, you can swap them out for a different type of bean. Cannellini beans work very well - or why not use some chickpeas and make it a spicy hummus?

Spices

By leaving the hot sauce for last, you can easily adjust how spicy you want this dip to be. In addition, you can also swap the spices I've used for your favourite ones. Maybe use a spice mix or a curry powder? I've done these variations before and it's been simply delicious!

Herbs

For my herbs, I've used fresh parsley in this recipe, but if you don't have fresh parsley to hand, simply swap it out for dried parsley or alternatively use fresh basil & dill.
